CHINESE NEW YEAR CELEBRATION – 2010 YEAR OF THE TIGER
Free family event featuring glow-in-the-dark dragon and lion dance parade, music, arts and crafts including Chinese lanterns and paper cutting, plus fortune telling, face paintings, exhibitions and more
Friday, February 19 6 p.m. – midnight

6 – 8 p.m. Crafts including Chinese red envelopes, lanterns, paper cutting, face painting (Gallery III)
6 – 11:30 p.m. Chinese calligraphy demonstrations with artist Thomas Yu (Jade Room)
7 p.m. Chinese Zodiac Tour (Gallery I)
8 p.m. Luminous Dragon and Lion Dance Parade and Kung Fu Showcase (Flora St.)
9 and 11 p.m. Chinese harp performances by Anita Hu during Seizing the New World: Recent Paintings by Yang Jin Long exhibition (Gallery I)

A spectacular Luminous Dragon and Lion Dance Parade plus illuminated displays, entertainment, family-fun activities, exhibitions, complimentary refreshments and much more will be on tap at
The Crow Collection After Dark: Chinese New Year Celebration on Friday, February 19, from 6 p.m. – midnight.
The evening will kick off with family art activities and a concert by the Four Seasons Choral Society and
Chinese Orchestra in Gallery III. Guests can decorate Chinese New Year red envelopes, create glowing lanterns, discover the delicate art of Chinese paper cutting and enjoy complimentary hot tea and good luck candy.
Children can transform into tiny tigers with face paintings by artists from Your Enchanted Face
(please note: face paintings will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis).
At 8 p.m., the Luminous Dragon and Lion Dance Parade will begin on Flora Street with a spectacular
glow-in-the-dark dragon and lion dance performance and kung fu showcase by the J.K. Wong Kungfu Tai Chi Academy, followed by a family lantern parade lead by the dragon dancers. Indoors, visitors can also enjoy a
glowing 60-foot dragon lit by black lights suspended in the Museum’s Sky Bridge Gallery.
Visitors can tour the new Seizing the World: Recent Paintings by Yang Jin Long exhibition in Gallery I while enjoying Chinese harp performances by Anita Hu at 9 and 11 p.m. Other highlights will include Chinese calligraphy demos by artist Thomas Yu in the Jade Room (6 – 11:30 p.m.) and Chinese fortune telling in Gallery III (10 p.m.).
Complimentary refreshments will be offered including tea and good luck candy (6 – 11:30 p.m.),
Chinese New Year traditional food samplings by Royal China (9 p.m. – limited supplies) and
Tiger Beer tastings (10 p.m. – limited supplies; must be 21 with valid ID).
Beginning at 6 p.m., buses will depart on the hour from The Dallas Chinese Community Center (400 North Greenville Avenue, Richardson). Bus service to and from the Museum and Community Center will be provided from 7 – 11 p.m.
Final buses will depart from the Crow Collection at midnight. Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis.
The Crow Collection After Dark: Chinese New Year Celebration is free and open to the public.
