Crow Collection After Dark: Art in October Friday, October 19 | 6PM – Midnight | Free Presented in Partnership with the Dallas Arts District Stay up late in the Dallas Arts District to celebrate Art in October and the Dallas Arts District. Enjoy Asian performances, tours of the exhibition On the Silk Road and the High Seas: Chinese Ceramics, Culture and Commerce, sweet treats and delicious desserts from area food trucks, complimentary Asian beer and an evening completed with karaoke.

Lotus Shop Trunk Show | Shawls and Textiles from the Silk Road 5 – 9 PM | Outside the Lotus Shop The Lotus Shop's finely honed selection of exquisite textiles is legendary. Join Lotus Shop buyer and renowned retail consultant Mary Bloom as she shares some of her favorite textiles handmade by artisans from around the world. Take the journey with us from Kashmir to India to Japan and discover these handcrafted treasures to wear or display.
Art Activity: Building a Horse with Shapes 6 – 10 PM | Garden Gallery Horse sculptures like the ones in the exhibition On the Silk Road and the High Seas: Chinese Ceramics, Culture, and Commerce were often buried in tombs to be used in the afterlife. Look at these horses. What kind of body parts does a horse have? Use the different shapes provided to design and create your own horse.
Art Activity: Captain’s Travel Log 6 – 10 PM | Garden Gallery Vasco da Gama was a Portuguese explorer and the commander of the first ships to sail directly from Europe to India. Marco Polo was a Venetian merchant traveler whose travels are recorded in Il Milione, a book which introduced Europeans to Central Asia and China. Embark on your own journey along the Silk Road and record adventures and stories of travel in your own travel log.
Gallery Activity: Can You Haiku? 6 PM – 10PM | Arbor Walk Haiku is a traditional form of Japanese poetry. Using the template provided, use a haiku to describe a work of art in the museum.
Tour of the Exhibition: On the Silk Road and the High Seas: Chinese Ceramics, Culture and Commerce 7 PM | Meet in the Front Lobby Join museum educators for a tour of the new exhibition and discover why Chinese ceramics were such prized commodities, both at home and abroad.
Silk Road Lounge 7 – 10:30 PM | Grand Gallery Spice up your night with innovative world music and be transported to Asia, North Africa, the Middle East, and the Mediterranean with a different artists and performers. This month’s lounge will feature
Silk Road Lounge Featured Performance 8 PM | Grand Gallery Jamal Mohamed and MWM will present an evening of World Music combining elements of traditional Indian, Middle Eastern and Jazz featuring, Poovalur Sriji on Indian Percussion, Sivarama Kodukula on Keyboard and Michael Nesuda on guitar.
Complimentary Asian Beer Tasting 8 – 11:30 PM | Silk Road Reading Room Explore the different tastes and flavors in a variety of Asian beers. Supplies limited. Must show proof of age to be served.
Twitter Scavenger Hunt: Veletta Lill’s Favorite Works of Art 8:30 PM | Hunt starts at the Dallas Museum of Art 8:30 PM @DallasMuseumArt | 9 PM @NasherSculpture | 9:30 PM @Crow_Collection There will be one tweet every thirty minutes (three tweets total) with the hashtag #ArtHunt providing a clue to where to find a work of art handpicked by Dallas Arts District Director, Veletta Lill. Grab a token at each work; be the first to find all three works of art and you could win prizes from all three museums!
Gallery Tour: Coats of Arms and Family Crests 10 PM | Meet in the Front Lobby Join museum educators for a tour of the new exhibition, On the Silk Road and the High Seas: Chinese Ceramics, Culture and Commerce, and discover how trade agreements and restrictions are not a new thing.
Karaoke After Dark 10:30 – 11:45 PM | Grand Gallery Join DJ Mark Ridlen for a multi-lingual and multi-media karaoke experience.
